When did the us army medical department start using the five digit stock number system ,example: 97351
a friend and I were talking about what we believed a pre WWII medical box using this stock number system but how ealry was it?

I have located USMD supply catalogs 1943, 1942 and 1937.Unfortunately the library does not loan and is clear on the other side of the states. Don't say never Ben, this summer I will be visiting the national archives for six fun filled days of research and after years of inquiries I have located the files I want to look thru and just so happens there are afew boxes that pertain to first aid kits and packets that are air force specific also...

An inetersting kit, but another possiblity is that the stock number was already there.After pondering this kit for awhile I came up with a few other possible answers.One, this kit could have been purchased by the aircraft contractor and supplied with plane.Second, what does the british version look ...

Ben I think you misunderstood me, I was implying that the markings were applied late or post war.The kit itself undoubtably pre march 44

Thanks Ben, first I made a small edit in original post for the TO on inspection it was not dec. 1945 but dec. 1943. The earliest publication I have with the third variant kit is jan. 1944 Air Surgeons Bulletin.The markings on your P-51 kit most likely is very late but I suspect post WWII even though...
