Re: packboard pack

The packs are available on ebay - a surplus store in Chicago sells them for about $35 here's a link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-USMC-MEDICA ... 43aa601cf0

The inner packs are much harder to find - good luck there.

Re: Something to wear in camp

It is with regret that I tell you that - due to a change in Army regulations - I will be losing the rights to much of the art and graphics used on these t-shirts. If you have considered them in the past, now is the time to buy, as CafePress is shutting down the designs in question.

Sorry guys!

Re: Vial, Urine question

I think I still have a few of these - but I don't recall if the carton is dated. 3-55 is on the carton, and "55" was on the bottle bottom. No medical item # on the carton, but the lids (tube of 100) are marked with 4-082-105, which isn't in the database as a valid WWII item. It could be a ...

Re: Iodum - Potassium iodide - any information?

Repro looks good, but I'm not sure how it would be used. From a medical reference: "Saturated solutions of potassium iodide can be an emergency treatment for hyperthyroidism, as high amounts of iodide temporarily suppress secretion of thyroxine from the thyroid gland. The dose typically begins ...

Re: Surgical sponge 2"x2" x 200 label

Looking closely at the original wrapper - it appears to be a small size kraft paper bag or sack. What is the overall size of the package?

here's typical US bag sizes...

Re: USMD pillow

I have several with newer (1955) dates - unissued & still in the poly wrapper. Because of the size, shipping will not be cheap.

Re: Casualty Dogs?

Tenth Mountain supposedly tried this for avalanche and combat casualties, but the project was declared unsuccessful and the dogs returned to their owners in late 1943. The 200+ sled dogs were sent to Alaska Command and the messinger dogs were also send back to their owners.

Fake Blood...

Fake blood is available at many costume shops this Halloween season - handy for bandages, makeup for 'patients", etc. It'll be hard to find in another month, so buy now if you need it. About $8 per qt. Last year I got a couple of "amputated limbs" to use in a field hospital set - put ...

Re: 10th Med BN DI

Phil:

My understanding from SSgt in Med Bn is that they did NOT have a DI for the 10th Med Bn in WWII. The only 10th unit with a DI was the 87th MIR. You can use the crossed skis with a cadeusis as an unofficial DI on both the Class A blouse & overseas cap.
