Airborne medic gear

Thu Mar 01, 2007 22:40

Hi
As I'm only quite new to reenacting an 82nd airborne medic have I kitted myself out correctly with the double medic pouches with suspenders? or as I have seen in a book should I have the triple compartment U.S airborne medics back pack style bag. Thanks

Daryl,

For your information the triple compartment US Airborne Medical Packs were only introduced towards the end of the war (and although I have seen one dated example from 1944) I suspect that the bags were used for the first time during Operation VARSITY, in 1945. However, rigger made examples of the bag can be seen in use during OVERLORD, as seen in the image at the top of the forums.

In addition, although supposedly the Airbonre Medical Kit (i.e. Item #9711600) only consistsed of one pouch, I have read a couple of reports of 82d Airborne Vets who claim that they actually jumped with two of the bags, one with the components outlined for Item #9711600, the other pouch was filled with supplies necessayr to establish an aid station on the ground, and once one had been set up, the extra pouch would be ditched. I haven't been able, however to find any images to support this view.

Hope that helps,
Ben

Thanks Ben,
 question was already answered in the MEDICAL KITS section, sorry. I have been looking, but there is so much info to take in I forget what I've looked at and seen.
Are the litter straps easy to find? thank you again.

Daz,

I am glad that you were able to find the answer to your question here on the site. As for the litter straps, I assume that you are referring to the Litter Carrying Straps (i.e. Item # 9708000), one of which I think I may have a spare. Let me check and get back to you. Hope that helps,

Many thanks,
Ben

Repro litter straps can be found at WWII Impressions...

http://www.wwiiimpressions.com/usarmygear.html

They are about half way down the page and listed as Straps, Litter. I have a pair of unissued originals that I purchased from Hayes Outapalik out of Montana and a pair repro of Straps, Cantle Ring from WWII Impressions.

Hope that helps!
