Delta Powerlight Lantern

Mon Jul 28, 2008 11:33

I was recently given a Delta Powerlight Battery Powered lantern, exactly like the one shown in Mike Detrez' Doc McIlvoy book on page 73 (Mannequin holding the light). It is OD in color, marked US on the bottom and the instruction paper inside the battery compartment is dated 6-44.

Were these a specific MC item or rather a general QM supplied item.

Did a quick search on this site but didn't find anything....

Thanks,

Johan

Hi Johan,

Thanks for your message. These lights seem to have been issued by both the Quartermaster Corps and Signal Corps. They were not specific to the Medical Department, although they do seem to have been standard equipment for the Battalion and Regimental Aid Stations (on at least one official list I have, anyway). Its official Signal Corps designation is Lantern MX - 290 / GV

Here are some photographs taken of the two examples in my collection:

Standard Army / QM Corps version:

Hope the above helps Johan.
Thanks and kind regards,
