What does this ambulance stencil mean?

Thu Dec 11, 2008 04:09

From the picture archives at footnote.com.

This is an enlargement of an Ambulance attached to the 15th Air Force 97th Bomb Group stationed at Amendola, Italy. Picture was taken 2 April 1945. (Plane is from the 340th Bomb Squadron)

Does anyone know what the graphic of a circle over 2 lines means?

Thanks,

Bill

"put the fat guy on two litters"?

Could it be a unit shipping marking - like the graphic used to keep unit baggage together in transit?
