Any one have any information related to the 59th Medical BN or the 395th Collecting Company? They may have served in the Pacific theater.

Hi Peter,
As far as I know the 59th Medical Battalion was part of the invasion force launched against Kiska (Aleutians) on 15 Aug 43 .
All the best ,
Alain

Thanks Alain. Do you have any docs that show them as part of the invasion force?

Peter,
The info was retrieved from the Army "Green" Books dealing with the US Army in WWII - The Technical Services - The Medical Department : Medical Service in the War against Japan (CMH - 1997) . The 59th Med Bn is briefly mentioned on page 173 . Unfortunately this is the ONLY reference I was able to find .
Sorry pal, there's nothing more ...
Alain :(

thanks Alain. I'll keep looking. I found an incomplete list of units that participated in the Aleutians assault, but it only mentions FSSF, the Canadian BDE, 7th Div with their organic units and then it says "other attached units". I'm guessing that the 59th is probably in that group.

Well, check out this site, from the Library of Congress Veteran's Project . A vet submitted his information to the database, which mentions that his unit of service was "Company A, 395th Medical Collecting Company, 59th Medical Battalion" and that the location of his service, 1942-45, was "Aleutian Islands (Alaska); Philippines; New Guinea; Japan".

The vet's pictures, interview and papers are available at the Library of Congress:

Thanks LOS. I found two others from the 59th as well which all indicate Alaska, Pacific and Japan. However I can't find any other info on these units. I found someone who is willing to research at one of the mid West archives that contains unit info, but can't find the contact info now. Still looking ....
