D Day

Fri Feb 06, 2009 01:21

I am reposting my original post from the US WWII forum for those of you interested in attending D Day in Ohio this year. I hope to see some of you there, if you have not been, it is worth considering.
Thanks,
-Lisa

Hello Everyone,
This post is just to confirm the details of the D Day event in Conneaut this year. This year’s event will be held on August 22, 2009.

As in years past, we are attempting to bring a higher level of realism to
D-Day Conneaut. Plans are in the works to replace the recently
decommissioned Naval Reserve boats out of Buffalo. If available funding
supports our objectives, Higgins boats will bring in the allied troops
ashore just as they did 65 years ago. There will not be a registration
fee but we NEED your support. So please consider buying a "War Bond" to
help us grow. Direct contributions will be made available shortly on
our web site.

New this year will be a see-saw battle of a causeway bridge which will
pit Allied and Axis units. The bridge, located in a valley adjacent to
the parade ground, will feature an all out struggle to hold and secure a
vital roadway leading to the beach. This scenario will highlight the
inland units of the Axis and Allied forces which in years past were
limited to a living history display only. This 1hr give and take
recreation will assure that D-Day Conneaut is the nation's best all
encompassing ETO event.

In addition to our WWII Veterans in attendance, we've also invited some
special guests to attend, so stay tuned to our web site, www.ddayohio.us
for more information.

The following individuals are your primary planning staff for D Day this year and the area of responsibility:

Betsy Bashore (logistics, event and community, funding & misc.)
Lisa Torey (logistics, event and community, funding & misc.)
Chris Guska (Allied S&A, misc.)
Eric Montgomery (website, registration, media, misc.)
Rob Trumbull (Battle Staff)
Tim Torey (Battle Staff)
Ryan Gray (Coordination, boats, planes, vehicles, & medical)
Rick Clark (German S&A, and battle staff)
Todd Knighton (Coordination, boats, planes, & vehicles)
Dave Lari (Vendor Coordinator)
Brittany Gnizak (Volunteer Coordinator)
Brittany Credit (Fundraising, misc.)
Mike Greco (Battle Staff)
Tom Udell (American Legion, veterans, & logistics)
Martha Sorohan (Press, media, & publications)

We are looking to have a great event this year. If you are interested in helping out with D Day please contact me.
See you on the beach!!!!

Pre registration is now open on our website http://www.ddayohio.us. We are in the process of planning a medical scenerio this year involving the EVAC hospital and evacuation of wounded from the battlefield. This is a new idea and may be a little late to pull off this year, but it is an option. I hope some of you can come out.
Sincerely,
-Lisa

If anyone is interested in coming to this event, we have confirmed that we do have boats to facilitate our D Day landing for the 10th year. I do look forward to seeing some new faces and some old ones. Please remember there is no registration fee for this event as long as you pre register. If you are coming and have now preregistered, since we do not charge a registration fee, please consider making a small donation to help offset the costs of getting the boats fueled and paying for insurance, pyro, among many of the amenities that we offer. You can preregister on the website at http://www.ddayohio.us.
Sincerely,
Lisa Torey
