Does anyone know if Propper made sphygmomanometers for the USMD in WWII?

Hello Reinier,

Here are photographs of the two types of Medical Department Sphygmomanometer that exist in my collection. Sorry that it has taken so long for me to post them for you. I hope that they will be of some use to your research.

Medicall, Medical companies also manufactured their items for the civilian market. I'am no expert on sphygmomanometers, but yours might be civilian..?? Or, does it also have the Med-Dept Item # stencilled somewhere on the box?

Medicall,

I also have the missing elements from my item (somewhere), I'll try to post a photograph when I am able to locate them for reference.

I have seen the same item in the crackle-finish metal box, and believe that this is the version shown in the 1944 Medical Department Supply Catalog, rather than this earlier wooden version which appears in our respective collections.

Regards,
Ben.

Hi,

Thanks you guys for sharing the pictures.

I've found several Sphygmomanometer in metal box but they were all civilian items, though med dept were all wood, many thanks for the clue.

Hello Fredental,

I have found few weeks ago in "Bourse Militaria" nearby my city this exemplary of
sphygmomanometer in metal box with a little aluminium plate on cover stamped "MD US ARMY"
I think the civillians ones are not stamped but the box is the same ????

Now I have the two models of sphygmomanometer with the mercury inside !!

Happy discoveries everybody.
With my best regards.

Congratulations on adding this to your collection, Medicall. This is indeed the later, metal cased version of the Sphygmomanometer that replaced the wooden version in 1944.

Ben.

Hi Medicall,

Nice find indeed ! I know now what it looks like...

Again many thanks Medicall and Ben for sharing the pictures, it's very usefull for knowledge and to find the very same (Yep, I'm a dreamer ! Why shouldn't I ? )

One additional question : Is Sphygmomanometer, Mercurial (Item # 3738000) keep the same item number and name moving from wood to metal box ?

Regards
Fredental
