Hello Alain,

I have a Tent - Pyramidal that was a barn find. I use it for my Medical impression.

It was a USN tent manufactured in 1944....

You are very welcome Alain,

A couple of notes on this. The safety pin attached to the label was there when I got the tent. Not sure how far back it was put on, but it is history so I left it.

This tent came out of a soldiers attic. Removed by his son who had sold the house after the troopers passing. He was in the Army Medical Corps not not a Navy Corpsman. The son did not know where he served so if it was the PTO I can see mixing of services in a Medical setup.

If you look close at the last picture you will see a canvas panel running the width of the door, just above the opening, about 12" high. Under that panel it is stenciled "U.S.N.". The panels only use is to cover the USN. I do not know when that panel was put on.

The tent next to it is a imitation commercially made in California, "Squad Tent". It was a GP Medium (1960's era) where the curved ends have been removed and replaced with straight panels. It is OK for reenacting or displays in bad weather when I don't want to subject the original to the elements.

Hi Bill,

Allow me to thank you once again for kindly providing the close-up photograph of the tag taken from your USN Pyramidal Tent. As you will notice, we have now added your photograph to our Article, and as you will see have indicated that it came from our Forum member WC_54. If you would prefer some other kind of text to replace the existing credit, just let me know.

You certainly have an interesting story behind the tent, and I wonder how a Medical Department soldier came to having a US Navy issue tent in his attic?! I like what you have done with the post-WW2 GP Medium tent too, it's just a shame that the eve is slightly shallower than its WW2 counterpart.

Very nice CA-1 Clarkair Bulldozer in the foreground on the last photograph too!

Thanks for sharing these photographs with us, and your willingness to help.

Best regards,
Ben ;)

Alain,

Thanks to a concerned donor I Rescued another Pyramidal tent from the trash bin. Unfortunately this tent is in un-usable condition due to dry-rot and mouse droppings. Two of the panels are so bad I do not dare put it up as it will undoubtedly rip.

It is unfortunate that these original tents can not be satisfactorily repaired. (If anyone knows of a miracle solution to this dry rot problem please bring it forward.)

I am sending on a picture of the tag for your reference page.

Bill,
Great news for finding this item - too bad it is in such poor state ...
Is there no way, to get hold of some additional canvas, to have some parts repaired ?

Thanks for the label pal !
