ebay medical chest

Sun Jan 18, 2009 23:58

Don't know if anyone is buying right now, but ebay has one of the medical chest listed right now ebay #160310483862. This is one of those non-USMD chests, I think someone said it was a shore party chest or something like that. Its listed as a foot locker but definitely one of *those* medical chests.

Not mine so I can't help any more.

Hopefully I didn't spoil Gauze's bid again

Thanks for posting that Peter. You're quite correct about it being a Shore Party Chest. It lacks the inserts and drawers unfortunately, and has been repainted thus hiding the original livery. Here's what Roger (docdean) wrote about them on another thread here:

Roger Dean wrote:That is a shore party medical chest. This chest was akin the Armys "MD" series medical chests. The contents of these chests were switched out to either support a "shore party" (Think Marines, CB's and Naval Shore Aviation Units) or the contents though similar were replaced and these chests served aboard ship and boats where there were not Medical Officers assigned (PT's, Subs,Destroyer Escorts), only Pharmacists Mates. The green stripes made this kit more easy to locate in General Quarters (where lights go to "RED") lighting conditions. These boxes were also stored in various parts of the ship in damage control lockers so they could be deployed to set up additional treatment points in combat conditions. These were often left painted gray when they went ashore or at times painted "OD". I have a similar one in my collection that served on Iwo Jima and later in a post nuclear Nagasaki. It served with the 5th MED DIV (5th Marines) and is in the gray and green stripe scheme.

Thanks,
Ben :)

Thanks Ben. I remembered seeing it here, but couldn't find that post. Seems like a good deal for someone looking to get into a shore party setup. Didn't DocDean post some photos from either Utah or Omaha beach with one of those chests?

Hi guys,

That was my post about a chest I bought. I fixed the link on the pictures so they now appear.

Thanks for fixing the images, Bill!
It's a shame that the internal components (dividers, etc.) have been removed on the chest that's for sale...

Ben :D
