Phil:

My understanding from SSgt in Med Bn is that they did NOT have a DI for the 10th Med Bn in WWII. The only 10th unit with a DI was the 87th MIR. You can use the crossed skis with a cadeusis as an unofficial DI on both the Class A blouse & overseas cap.

Hi Phil -

According to my Army Heraldic Crests guide, the motto "Fortes Defensores Vitae" belongs to the 210th Support BN which gets it roots from the 10th Medical BN. The unit crest design for the 210th SPT BN was approved May 12, 1955. Given that the 10th MED BN was re-organized Oct 1990 as the 210th SPT BN, it is safe to assume the crest was used by the 10th Med BN from May 1955-Oct 1990 and subsequently adopted by the 210th SPT BN.

As Dave suggested, it does not appear the 10th Med BN had an official unit crest during WW2.

Hope that helps,
Peter

Thanks Guys! can anyone tell me what this one is then? It's not modern as I have seen the modern one, but if its not ww2, could it be Korean War? or later? Thanks...Phil

That's the same design in my reference book that was adopted 1955 for the 10th Med BN and the subsequent 210th FSB. You have a different design that you believe to be more modern?

Yeah, I had one that a guy represented as 10th med, but I didn't buy it as it just didn't look right. I'll search for the pic I took and post it. Thanks for all the help. Phil

Hi Phil,
The illustration you provided is a postwar DI of the 10th Medical Battalion (maybe theater-made, manufactured for Vets or collectors, or a Vet-related Association).
It is however listed and illustrated in the 1967 ASMIC Catalog with the indication that the design was officially approved by the US Army Institute of Heraldry.

Just my two cents ...
Alain
