Re: War Department, Medical ID Card (laminated)

Fri Oct 16, 2009 08:44

Hi Bob,

I did NOT include a picture, since I don't have the card - but it is based on the obverse and intact part of an original ID Card that belonged to an 82d Abn Div "Medic" that I interviewed in S-M-E, France, back in 1994 ! He showed me his second pattern card and I noted down what was available . I discovered the note in my files, while looking for something else . I can therefore vouch for its authenticity !

Btw, Bob have you got ANY cards in your possession ?

Cheers,
Alain

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your message .
I hate to disappoint you, but this is NOT a Medical ID Card, this is the late war / postwar version of a regular Military ID Card ! Not to be confused with a Medical version (see lack of Red Cross and texts referring to the GC) .

Best ,

Hi Alain and mates.

happy 2010 to all of you.

Browsing the web I recently found 3 more medic ID cards.
Here are just the dates of them:

21.09.44 R045205 ANC

28.02.45 R493045 ANC

26.06.45 R194323

Maybe these are not known to everybody who is interested.
Unfortunately I can´t find the links anymore, but fortunately I saved the images on my HD.
If someone needs to have a peep, feel free to contact me.

Cheers,
J.B.

Hi Alain and gang,

today I am able to put in some other new data.
This is a new piece from my collection.
Although it is a very late war issue date I hope it will help with your research.

Hi J.B.,
Thanks for this new one!
Appreciated your assistance.

The earliest one is dated 31 May 1944, and the one you just shared is the latest i.e. 9 July 1945.

There seems to be NO fixed sequence at all, since I have some dated June 1945, with the series of digits preceded by R as well as S and even T prefix ...

Thanks,
Alain :)
