Nice, but a good reminder why I don't do winter events except on special request.

doing events in the Ardennes in winter has it's advantages,
no one is around to mess up the photo's, on one is interested in what we do(police etc.)

If you have the right (original) kit the cold is not a big deal, about seven layers works

By the way I was told that yesterday and today some places in the Belgian Ardennes (higher tops only) were covered with a layer of up to 60-70 cm of snow ... what a pity I couldn't make it, because of the treacherous and dangerous roads leading to the region.

Well, actually doing it in the Ardennes for real might be different. I am hoping to go over to Europe for the 70th anniversaries of both D-Day and Bastogne. If I can make it to Holland for the anniversary of Market Garden, I will certainly do my best.

Nice pics Loz. Time in the Ardennes is hard to describe just like any other battlefield. I remember it being a beautiful place but at the same the reality of previous conflicts doesn't make it as joyful. I can remember sitting in foxholes on a ridge overlooking a bridge and getting a chill what had happened their 50 yrs prior. Yes, it was "fun" but not like Disneyland fun. Definitely a worthwhile trip.

Perhaps...if we booked flights as a group with the American contingent meeting up in Chicago or New York or something, I bet we could get a discount.

If all goes according to plan, I may get to jump my butt into France as part of the commemoration of the drops into Normandy. I have the blessing of the family of the doc who is the basis for my impression (for the most part; my impression is actually a mixture of three different physicians that served with the unit) to do this.

I have been traveling to the ardennes for almost 20 years, it is unlike most of the other battle grounds in Europe. Many of the foxholes and positions are still there, the more obsure the unit the more intact are the foxholes (do your reserch) in past years we have covered events for 17,82 and 101 AB
28,83,99,106 INF and 9 and 10 ARMD and looking to do 2nd Inf next December, the event are normaly based around a march and or a night vigil

Yes, the roads were very bad, the worst I have ever seen them, Shady had to tow me out of Wirtzfeld. Daft Brits no winter tyres!
