Normandy Jump 2010

Sun Jul 25, 2010 12:50

Hi mates,

June, 4th 2010 I was able to get a place in one of four sticks, to jump an 82nd AB DZ in Normandy.
We took off from Cherbourg airport, flew along Utah Beach, buzzed Sainte-Mere-Eglise and were finally dropped north west of SME. That was an experience I´ll never forget.

Awesome pictures ! It must be quite a thrill to jump over these 'sacred' grounds ...

You're a member of the "Liberty Jump Team", right ? Whenever I'm in Normandy, I often have a chat or get together with Hubert A, whom you must know. We used to often meet in my 're-enacting' period.

Due to the numerous ceremonies and a tight program on Friday (4 June 2010), I wasn't there, but we did watch everything that went on at La Fière the next day (5 June 2010) including the separate commemorative + mass jump over this historical DZ.
This was my annual visit to Ste-Mère-Eglise, and as usual (since 1982), we escort Vets, get together, visit historic places, entertain them, and it is always a 'special' feeling to sort of watch over and help WW2 Veterans, true members of the Greatest Generation during their visit to Normandy (and the Bulge).

Thanks for sharing.
Best,
Alain

Alain,
yes I know Hubert. He was on the same plane like me. And we were dropped just right into his "back yard".
On one photo you can see his property and mansion near Fresville / Hiesville.
I am not a member of the Liberty Jump Team. but I am a member of Pathfinder Holland, Pathfinder Europe and the Airborne Command Task Force France.
If I ever get the chance to do this again, you can bet I will do it. Just thinking of this jump makes me getting goosebumps on my skin. It definitely is ´holy ground´.
Your kind of guiding those brave people must also be a great thing. I wasn´t able to meet one this year, but looking forward to Market Garden ...

It is a pleasure to share my photos with y´all.
Cheers,
J.B.

Hi J.B.
Thanks for your comments.

The C-47 Club, Inc. was formally organized by WW2 Vets of the 82d A/B Division.
Its objectives today have remained the same, to guard and honor the History of the WW2 82d A/B Division, and to continue to honor, respect, and preserve the traditions of the "All American" Division, past and present.
The Club is registered in the US, but has representative Chapters in different countries overseas.

Alain,
that sounds very interesting to me!
Where can I get more information about that and what is to be done to get a supporting member?
Cheers,
J.B.

Fantastic photographs indeed, thanks for sharing these with us JB.
Indeed, it must be quite a thrill to jump out of an old War Bird.
Kind regards,
Ben

J.B.
If you need to know more about joining the C-47 Club, Inc., you might send a message to Mrs. Marolyn H. Pensock >
mr-49@webtv.net.
There's an ongoing re-organization, but up to now, this lady still is the Club's Secretary.
You can apply for annual membership - or for life membership.

Thanks Alain, perfect information.
I just tried to contact Mrs. Pensock, but the mail returned. The error message was "user unknown".
Do you have an other one or an URL, please?
Thanks.
Cheers,
J.B.

Thanks for your comments mates.
Next week I will go to Switzerland for an other event. I hopefully will have 3 more jumps from the same old bird.
If we are able to take some more photos I will also share them with all of you.
Thanks again.

Hi J.B.,
Fantastic ! Thanks for sharing the news about the coming events ...

Sorry for my late reaction to the extra C-47 Club query - there is a complete ongoing re-organization, involving retirement and subsequent replacement of Officers ! I was told that a Flyer / Newsletter is to be issued during the last Quarter of 2010.
So, we'll just have to wait for that ...

Will keep you posted.
Thanks and kind regards,
Alain
