Jerrycans with blue lines painted on them.

Have a look at this thread on the g503 forum:

There are jerrycans with these blue lines painted on them and there is still no good explanation for them.

Does anyone here have a good suggestion? As you can see my thought are along the lines of a POM marking. IS there anything on the A list on supply depots in Normandy?

Very likely potable water. Both of my parents served in WW2 and quite often I've discovered that traditions learned in the service endured. A splotch of blue paint on an otherwise unmarked container meant water.

The can in question is marked with a G for Gasoline. I don't think you would (ever) put water in that one, especially since they made the same can for water (W)...?
