Postby LOZ » Thu Sep 03, 2009 11:24

HI ALL
TODAY I RECIEVED NEW ORDERS
A temporary assignment to the 48th Armored Medical Battalion, supporting C Company 82nd Armored Recon, 2nd Armoured Div. A nine day advance through Belgium into Holland to the German border. Living in the field with around a hundred guys in a self contained unit should be interesting. Departing Oostende 5/9/09.

Hi Loz,
ENJOY - this should mean a lot of fun, living in the field, with a bunch of serious re-enactors !
A trip with Jon's people and vehicles, always looks very attractive ...
All the best - how about sending us some pictures after the event .
Regards ,
Alain :)

Hi Alain/Ben
Thanks
Its my first time out with this team so I do not know what will happen along the way. But it has to be easy compared with walking up and down those damm hills on my normal visits to Belgium!
ALL THE WAY!

HI All
A bit late but he is a quick report from the Second Armoured's advance in to Germany in September.
The Company assembled in Jabbake, Belgium the company comprised of 4 Harley Davidson's, 14 jeeps, 9 M8's 5 half tracks 2 GMC's, 1 water bowser ,1 field kitchen and 120 men and 3 ladies. from across Europe the US an the UK.
We move though belgium doing around 45K per day to pre aranged camp sites( one next to a graveyard,no facilites , just lots of shovel patrols)
kicking up dust, scaring the livestock and terrorising the locals.
In addition to my medical duties which were minimal ( a cut finger, and the split nose of of a member of a visiting mayoral party) I wasalso HQ platoon commander.
At Haselt we met up with some 2nd Armored Vets,we had formed up out side the town hall where the Vet attending a reception the got quite a supprise when the came out to board their bus.
We moved to Maastricht and our first hot shower in 7 days and more inportantly the use of porcalain. The barracks had never seen so much armour and the barracks Commander was very happy to see us and gave us the keys to the bar(BIG MISTAKE ) we almost drank it dry. On Saturday we "Liberated"Masstricht the local cheering us as we move along the streets in to town hall squire where we were meet by hundredsof people wanting to climb all over the vehicles after a few hours we moved bake to the barracks and got change into our class "A"s and marched back in to town for dinner with the mayor and the vets. after dinner went into the town and some of the watering holes
Sunday we made our way towards the German border and using a dirt track crossed the border in to GERMANY! and took up positions on the Seigfried line.
One of the high ponts in my re-enacting career, I had never thought it possable, to drive in to Germany, in uniform in a "fully armed" in a armored column
